Confirmation at People of Hope is simply people choosing to formally get up in front of others and say they believe and love the God who faithfully loves us. Sometimes Confirmation is called "Affirmation of Baptism," because it is saying "Yes" to the witness of faith that happened in baptism. Who can get confirmed? Anyone, at any age. Usually, we think of teenagers when we think about confirmation, but anyone -- anytime they want to give witness to their faith -- can get confirmed. For youth who want to get confirmed along with other kids their own age, we usually offer confirmation as an option their sophomore or junior year in high school. Who decides who gets confirmed? We try very hard to make sure that no one ever feels "forced" to get confirmed. We invite people to enjoy the Rite of Confirmation only if and when they want to. What do I have to do to get confirmed? The church through the ages has always provided various ways for people to stand up publicly and say "I believe in our wonderful God!" For churches that only baptize adults, that can happen during baptism. For churches that baptize infants, that chance often comes through "Confirmation," or "Affirmation of Baptism." By its very nature, the Rite of Confirmation is a grateful statement
of faith. It is not a required graduation after required courses.
However, to serve our kids and help them know more about this God who
loves us, we offer learning opportunities for kids of every age. |
