In some churches baptism is when someone gets completely dunked under
water. At People of Hope, we just sprinkle water on someone's head.
But Baptism is more than getting wet; it's water used together with God's Word and by God's command: Jesus said, "Go make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." It's a life-giving water! Who can be Baptized? People of all ages and of "all nations" are welcomed to be baptized. Some wonderful churches (like the Baptist church) believe that baptism is an outward sign that should follow a decision an individual makes; for them, it makes sense to baptize only people who are old enough to be able to make such a decision. Other wonderful churches (like us Lutherans) believe that baptism is something that God does, and therefore it doesn't require adult understanding; for us, it makes sense to baptize babies, kids, teens, and adults of all ages. There are no requirements! God invites us all to be welcomed into the Christian faith. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about
baptism or wants to be baptized, please call (507-280-9766) or e-mail
Pastor Dan.
